Management consulting

Executive Director, PricewaterHouseCoopers (South East Asia) Sustainability & Climate Change advisory (‘12 - ‘14)

Moved to Malaysia for a two-year contract leading the growth of a sustainability strategy consulting practice, leading a team of 12 consultants, managing P&L and profit to the partnership and providing regional ‘centre-of-excellence’ leadership to regional teams across Asia.

Achievements and key roles:

Practice-lead P&L management of the PwC Consulting practice sustainability team, I was responsible for meeting budget, growing sales, leading the team and ultimately I exceeded top & bottom-line income with a 30% year-on-year growth in Malaysia. I was responsible for stimulating the nascent market through targeted client relationships, inspiring, engaging and advising blue chip clients' senior management. South East Asia was a nascent sustainability market and the engagement process, education amongst business leaders to focus away from ‘CSR’ to value creating and risk mitigating sustainability projects was a major challenge.

I was responsible for owning the strategic business case and financial planning for sustainability consulting in Malaysia and beyond, using project revenue pipeline, future trends and service-line opportunities; ensuring global and regional strategy alignment and internal support from PwC partners to contribute to wider firm revenues via cross-selling initiatives. This way, I was able to identify opportunities to advised multiple clients on sustainability strategy, risks, communications and corporate reporting. Most notably advised a globally leading FMCG on its localised ‘Creating Shared Value’, the main Malaysian sovereign wealth fund’s valuation of sustainability on investee company share price, two sizeable players in the Malaysian palm oil sector and advised the then Malaysian Prime Minsterer’s green economy team on the development opportunities for environmental policy.

I was a proactive, empathetic and driven leader, providing guidance to a Malaysian team of 12, fostering a high performance, collaborative and entrepreneurial team culture that resulted in a 25% measured increase in team morale on the previous 2 years. Given my seniority and experience I also led the co-ordination of efforts across the region by playing a ‘centre of excellence’ role to other regional teams to deliver cross-selling projects, and deployment of staff resources based on skill-set and experience with other global project teams.
